Sage Hospitality Group announced today the addition of two California hotels to its portfolio of managed properties: The Guild Hotel, Tribute Portfolio in downtown San Diego and The Lodge at Sonoma Renaissance Resort and Spa in downtown Sonoma.
“We are truly thrilled to welcome these two beautiful assets and their teams into the Sage family,” said Daniel del Olmo, President and COO of Sage Hotel Management, a Sage Hospitality Group company. “Both The Guild Hotel and The Lodge at Sonoma are perfect additions to our growing portfolio of lifestyle hotels, and we look forward to bringing the talent and expertise of the Sage team to these operations. We are thankful to our partners at Oram Hotels and DiamondRock Hospitality Company for their partnership with Sage.”
When evaluating any new business opportunity, Sage Hospitality Group closely assesses how the four companies within the enterprise – Sage Hotel Management, Sage Restaurant Concepts, Sage Studio and Sage Investments – can provide meaningful competitive advantage to both the asset and ownership partners.
- Sage Hotel Management is a collective of creative and relationship driven individuals who live to serve guests and partners with creativity and passion. A group of hoteliers who have led the way in defining experiential hospitality while maintaining a reputation as best-in-class operators, the Sage Hotel Management team is deeply invested in managing independent, soft-branded, luxury and lifestyle hotels from coast to coast.
- Sage Restaurant Concepts, founded in 2005, is a family of seasoned restaurateurs committed to consistently crafting exceptional experiences that forge a bond with guests, enrich communities and empower people. Sage Restaurant Concepts creates industry-leading restaurant and bar concepts with soul for the people who live, work and play in the communities they serve.
- The recently launched Sage Studio gives structure to what Sage has long been known for: creating places people want to go to, not through. Sage Studio is dedicated to creating spaces that fuse creativity and ingenuity to light the way for a new standard in hospitality. From restaurants, to branded hotels, to soft brands and independent properties, Sage Studio creates brands rooted in concise and exciting messaging that allows those businesses to tell their unique story.
- Sage has developed a reputation as not just as a strong operator, but as a great and determined investment partner thanks to the dedication of the team at Sage Investments and their deep understanding of markets and risk. Whether investing for the short term or long term, Sage Investments strives to achieve outsized returns for its partners by finding and adding value in unique and proprietary ways.
In addition to the value created for partners through its four companies, Sage has invested several million dollars in the creation of a holistic platform which includes revenue generation support, customer relationship management and centralized accounting and procurement services as well as human resources, labor productivity and property management systems.
The Guild and The Lodge at Sonoma are each a perfect match for the Sage portfolio, as Sage Hotel Management has a proven track record of achieving operational excellence and delivering the best in experiential hospitality at properties within the independent, soft-branded and lifestyle segment and is actively focused on growing their portfolio in this category. Sage Restaurant Concepts saw a huge amount of potential and will be leading the management of food and beverage operations at both hotels. Sage Studio will take the time to carefully evaluate each property and will work with the property teams to truly bring their unique story to life and find opportunities to create new and exceptional experiences. While these deals are management contracts and will not involve an investment from Sage, the team at Sage Investments provides guidance to the operations teams on how to always make decisions and “think like an owner.”
The Guild Hotel, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel
Opened in summer 2019 to numerous accolades, The Guild Hotel is a reimagination of the iconic historic Armed Services YMCA building in the heart of Downtown San Diego. The 162-room hotel is part of Marriott’s Tribute Portfolio and pays homage to the building’s storied past through the restoration of historic details, like the beautifully reconditioned exterior and grand stone staircase. However, the hotel creates fresh appeal for savvy business travelers, jet setters and taste-making locals through the modern design and amenities, like a stunning grand ballroom in place of the original basketball court and pool.
“The guest experience at The Guild is intended to be rooted in nostalgia and familiarity, but injected with a modern edge” said Alvin Mansour of Oram Hotels, the San Diego-based ownership group for The Guild. “We look forward to working with the Sage team to continue to bring our vision to life and create unforgettable memories for the guests of the hotel.”
Located in the heart of downtown San Diego, The Guild is centrally located to the attractions that are definitive of San Diego, including the historic Gaslamp Quarter, Little Italy, San Diego Convention Center, PetCo Park and the San Diego Zoo.
